Messersmith Woodworks
About
My name is Ron Messersmith and I have been a woodworker for over 45 years. I have operated woodworking businesses in Hawaii, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Ohio and now Washington State.
I am a self taught woodworker as I believe most are. I began my love of woodworking in 1968 while stationed in Hawaii. During my 12 years in Hawaii, I worked at the wood hobby shop at the Pearl Harbor Submarine Base and also ran a custom woodworking shop in Waikiki. We made monkey pod and koa tables and produced approximately 100 bowls a day.
After leaving Hawaii, I established a custom woodworking business in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and then a furniture repair and antique restoration business in Ohio. During the past 4 decades, I have attended many weekend and week long woodworking workshops.
My woodworking encompasses many areas and styles. I make furniture in Queen Anne, Chippendale, Mission, Shaker and my own designs. I offer a complete line of Windsor Style chairs, heirloom quality wood toys, jewelry boxes, desk accessories, pen and pencil sets and anything that you might imagine being made from a piece of wood!
My wife, Tomie, is from Yakushima, Japan and expertly contributes to stripping, finishing, caning, and fiber rush work. I'm grateful for her help and support.
